Local Offer App Launched

Splinter and Liverpool company Twin Vision have been busy working with schools to create Liverpool’s ‘Local Offer’ app. The ‘Local Offer’ is a new law, which states that every local authority must talk with children and young people, with special educational needs or disabilities and their families to find out what sort of support and services they need.

The app was launched at George’s Hall, where pupils were presented with certificates and iTune vouchers, by The Lord Mayor of Liverpool Councillor Tony Concepcion and Lady Mayoress, Ann Concepcion.

Splinter’s Managing Director, Chris Beer said: “Splinter has been fortunate to have worked with incredibly talented and dedicated individuals on this project. We’ve been amazed at how knowledgeable and inspirational everyone has been and at how much we continue to learn and benefit from our partners.”

The app contains animations explaining the different support available, as well as a directory of services that cover subjects such as education, training, transport options and help to find a job. Pupils had a say in everything from the design of the app through to developing the animations and even recording the voiceovers.

Splinter and Twin Vision were selected by Liverpool City Council for their track records of delivering engaging and accessible services, and for including young people within their creative processes.

Assistant Mayor and Cabinet member for education, Councillor Nick Small, said: “It is vital that we make the information more user friendly and interesting to young people, because if we want them to use it then it has to be presented in a way that is easily understandable to them and presented in an accessible way.”

A HUGE thanks to the pupils and staff from Broadgreen International School, Palmerston School, St Anne’s Catholic Primary School, St Cuthbert’s Catholic Primary School, St Vincent’s and Sandfield Park School.

You can download the apps at: iTunes and Google Play and watch how the app was made.
